Vexed their big no.9 last night was toilet. Might have a good scoring record in Belgium but I don’t think he’ll do well in England. Holler has a great record in Germany and Holland.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v - KRC Genk - Official Match Thread
We got out of jail a bit last night with the set pieces. It was obvious in the first half we lacked a no 9. I really couldn't see the logic in playing Yarma in basically the same position on the right side attack and not a replacement for Antonio and more central. Vlasic isn't a false no 9. A lot of crosses in their box and no one in the right areas. When they had everyone behind the ball it was difficult to break them down. Once we scored from the corner they had to come out.

I still say not getting a back up for Antonio will bite us in the arse at some point. We didn't need Vlasic.

There are a lot of good teams in the competition, but I don't reckon any of them will be pleased if they draw us.

Think we all said when group stage draw was made that we were not in the glamour group but had a great chance to go through.

The team are not bad though. Zagreb were top seeds and smashed their group last year before beating spurs.

Genk played Liverpool two years ago in champions league and should have won at anfield.

Playing Zagreb first and last also a huge help.

Not there yet but already guaranteed the conference league at least! Top group and last 16 Europa is amazing achievement.

Genk had a few decent players I thought. The big lump up top looks like he'd be dangerous in the Premier league, can play a bit too. They had a few other players that looked pretty good and the geezer they brought on second half - Tresor was it? - was fucking lightning quick. Looked like he was on fast forward every time he got the ball.

Genk's first half performance was probably the best we've seen in the Europa so far and they're meant to be the shittest team in the group arent they?

The best thing about the team / squad at the moment is that there are no "superstars".

I feel like the whole isn't going to collapse if 1 player is missing. Thats such a big deal for me.

In the past we'd go for months knowing we'd get nothing because Caroll was out or Arnie was injured. Or when Payet wasnt playing we were done.

Doesnt feel like that anymore. And I kind of hope we dont get players that can't be dropped anymore. Just makes the whole thing fit together better.

Yes fixing nicely now mate, the crutches are mainly ornaments because chicks dig them! Haha.

It's gone from feeling like I have been stomped on by God to merely feeling like he kicked me in the bollocks.

As a side note, in stadium it really reminded me of how proud I am to be West Ham. Every supporter was as good as gold to me, let me past them in queues and one lump said as I was queueing for the bog at halftime 'jib the queue mate, I will come with you'. I declined of course but the supporters and even the stewards were fucking great.

What a time to be West Ham. I wish my old man and the people we've lost over the last few years could be with us now.

I keep reading we're interested in this or that keeper.

If that's more than made-up click-bait, then it suggests Areola is just a temporary back-up for Fabianski, and is not seen as the future.

Vexed 1:29 Fri Oct 22
Re: ⚽ West Ham v - KRC Genk - Official Match Thread
I dont get the clamour for Areola to be our number one. Looks highly suspect on crosses and he seems to get a bit overexcited and comes out miles too far.

However when he came flying out of his box to tackle their player who was through he probably saved us a goal. Could have gone wrong but it didn't.

I prefer the relatively calm Fabianski at the moment. He hasn't done much wrong and is solid.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v - KRC Genk - Official Match Thread FT 3-0
That was a howler from Areola. Serious lack of judgement and a bit worrying. It was obvious from sitting in the stands he wasn't getting anywhere near that. Must have been still a yard or two away from the player when he headed it. We were bloody lucky it dropped wide, or he'd have been looking like a right tit.

I couldn't agree more Azel.

I'm also sure that Vlašić is going to be having words with himself and realise that he doesn't have the time on the ball that he's experienced outside the Premier League, just as Pablo Fornals did.

I have huge faith in Moyes and the coaches.

It was really interesting to see that every time we had a corner the team took up different positions.

One time you'd. Have Declan on the far post with a crowd of West Ham players in and around the box then you'd have Declan making a nuisance of himself roughing the goalie up ready for Dawson to sprint from the eighteen yard box to attack a header, then Declan on the eighteen yard line ready for the player taking a corner to pass it into him so he could fire it in.

It was so apparent that we've got a pretty sophisticated set up to deal with dead ball situations and a group of supremely fit, well drilled players with the skill to deliver the manager's plans

I just pray that they give a performance like that or better on Sunday.

People are going to be in for a shock when Fabianski is no longer our number 1.

We've been so lucky to have a keeper as good as him, and the standards he seems to be held to, and the goals he gets weirdly blamed for, it's going to be a rude awakening when the next man is between the sticks.

Chim that is what elite football should be about. Engaging with your fans, put on a great display and there is an overwhelming sense of pride. What you witnessed was something special and that emotion sticks.

Good post Chim Chim.

I've noticed Ben Johnson grows into games, in the same way Winston Reid took three games to get going after an injury lay off.
Quite often starts rusty, and gets better and better as the game goes on.

Fantastic result almost puts us through
Hard not to get carried away as we’ve been so ridiculously dominant in all our games but not to put too much of a damper on it we do have a ridiculously easy group compared with some of the others
Didn’t think we played great but if you can win in Europe 3-0 be top of the group not conceding a goal is whilst resting most of your big guns for a big prem game at the weekend seems a bit cunty to moan.
Obviously there is a marked difference between our first team and the reserves but that’s true for every team you only need to see Liverpool’s demise last season when they had 4/5 players out
Thought we controlled the game without threatening too much but at no point did I not think we were going to win, tbh a bit like Sunday against the blue bin dippers. Only slight gripe I’d have was I’d of whipped every first team player off as soon as that third goal went in and wasn’t sure of the point in bringing fornals and benny on, not saying 10 mins will affect Sunday but i didn’t see the point in risking either of them with the game won.
With so many big games coming up id expect a proper reserve team to go to genk as realistically with our GD we only need one more win.
